A Pokemon Go trainer has asked for help from the community after claiming his mother is “addicted” to the monster-catching mobile game.
As with any video game, Pokemon Go is designed to entice players to have fun and keep coming back for more awesome monster-attracting goodies.
However, when it comes to mobile games, many of them are designed to make players feel obligated to come back every day, to complete daily quests, earn login rewards, and more.
Now, a Pokemon Go player has called out the community for advice after claiming his mother has become “addicted” to playing the mobile game.

The OP went on to explain that their mother wakes up at 4am before work to walk and catch Pokemon for an hour. Additionally, they explained, “When we’re on a trip, she just looks at her phone and it’s like she’s not there with us. When we’re home and I want to ask about something, she says she’s on.”

While the coach admitted that they don’t mind her playing the mobile game, they think she “plays too much and sometimes it seems like she sees the game as an obligation and pressures her.”

They ended their post by asking the community for help on how to address the issue with their mother.
Many players took this post to heart and offered some advice on how to move forward. “Say you’re worried, and ask others to express themselves if they’re worried too. It feels like a gaming addiction and should be treated as such, preferably by a professional,” one fan said.

Some players suggested to the coach to buy their mother a motorized device to reduce playing time. “Maybe buy her a catch so she can spin around and automatically catch Pokemon while out with the family without being glued to her phone.”
Others had a different perspective on the situation and offered their own views on the context. “I’m 60 and I’ve been addicted for years. I once stopped to play a different game for two years. They said, ‘If I’m not addicted to this, I’ll probably be addicted to something else.'”

While video games can be fun hobbies that can be done socially or alone, it’s always important to remember to play in moderation.
