Parents and children flocked to the Target Center in Minneapolis over the weekend to watch Disney on Ice.
Parents told Local 4 that about 40 minutes into the show, Novi Anastasia Olson, who was portraying Belle, got into a shaky elevator with her partner and fell on the ice, hitting her head and then having seizures.
A tent was set up on the ice to provide her with medical care, and the lights dimmed. A short time later, she was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital, and the show continued.
Olson is a well-known skateboarder in metro Detroit. She and partner Jordan Cowan have trained at Ann Arbor Ice Cube for years.
Their banner remains in the Olympic rink, along with their 2009 silver medal at the US National Figure Skating Championships.
After her competitive career ended, she excelled at coaching young skaters and was touring with Disney on Ice when the accident occurred.
Cowan said it was a natural extension of her talents.
“It doesn't surprise me at all that she's committed to skating,” Cowan said.
Her injuries were described as serious, but the hospital in Minneapolis says she is in stable condition.
“I know for a fact that she is a skater in every sense of the word,” Cowan said. “She will be back on the ice one day soon, and I know she is a fighter and would do anything for this sport.”
