After receiving several calls from concerned citizens, the Saint-Thérese fire department quickly triggered a public alarm, which mobilized about sixty firefighters.
Sappers from the fire stations of Boisbriand, Blainville, Mirabel, Saint-Eustache, Terrebonne and Deux-Montagnes were called in to reinforce the staff of the Saint-Thérèse fire protection service.
“At the moment, we do not know the cause of the fire, said Mathieu Lacombe, head of operations of the Saint-Thérèse fire protection service. Our investigators are on their way.
However, Mathieu Lacombe pointed out that the fire would have started on the third floor before spreading rapidly. A video posted on the Caserne Sainte-Thérèse Facebook page shows flames coming from the third-floor balcony of the residential building.

Drivers on Highway 640 saw flames and smoke.
“It’s a building that’s difficult to access because of its configuration, and that complicates the work of firefighters,” said Matthew Lacombe. […] There was an exodus. We have no reports of injured or missing people, but we have no confirmation to the contrary.
About an hour after the intervention, firefighters are yet to bring the fire under control.
