In the small municipality of Saint-Rémi in Montérégie, a man in his fifties was arrested Wednesday morning after firing a pellet gun in the direction of a daycare center.
“It’s definitely stressful. There’s a lot going on,” says the neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous.
At 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sûreté du Québec police officers intervened on Berras Street.
According to our information, the suspect climbed onto the rear balcony of an apartment to point a pellet gun in the direction of the courtyard of the La Petite Maternelle daycare center located on rue Chevrefils.
He was arrested and may be charged with mischief, said Camille Savoy, a spokeswoman for the SQ.
Fear rather than harm
No one was hurt, but the story spread on social media, causing concern among parents in the municipality of about 10,000 people.
“Parents called me in a panic, they saw this on social networks,” said Nathalie Aucagneur, owner of the Académie des Elves, 200 meters from the stage.
“It definitely stressed me out. I closed the curtains and put the children down for a nap. We weren’t afraid of him coming in, but there could have been a stray bullet,” continues the woman, who has lived in Saint-Rémy for thirty years.
Traffic was blocked for part of the day on Rue Perras, residents noted.
