A scientist falls 500 feet to his death when the map leads him into the abyss

A decorated Russian scientist has tragically fallen from nearly 500 feet to his death after a hiking app led him to the edge of a cliff in Germany.

The bizarre drowning occurred on August 12, while the man, Dr. Dmitry Vedyanin, 34, who hails from Russia but lives in North Rhine-Westphalia, was hiking in the picturesque Berchtesgadner Alp National Park, known for its trees. Stunning scenery and peaks that reach 9,000 feet.

The Russian, who was said to have been traveling alone at the time, was using the navigation app to descend to Götzenalm near Lake Königssee, but was directed along a route with no tracks. I mentioned the sun.

Tragedy struck after an alpine climber lost his footing on a rocky ledge and fell fatally hundreds of feet.

“Our investigators assume that the man slipped in the rocky area, which contains some patches of grass,” Maximilian Meyer, a spokesman for the Upper Bavarian state police, said in a statement. “Then he slid a minimum distance of 150 meters (492 ft).”

Fedyanen’s disappearance was revealed after the landlord at his residence in Götzenalm noticed that his bed was unused and reported it to the police. BR24 reported.

This prompted the Alpine Task Force and the Mountain Rescue Service to send a search party to locate the missing researcher.

A helicopter finally spotted Fedyanen’s body at the bottom of the Hohr-Lafeld summit, after which medics determined he had died from head injuries sustained during the fall.

And Maximilian Meyer declared that “anyone else’s involvement can be ruled out”.

This marked an early end for Vedyanin, who was an decorated researcher at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in Moscow, Russia, where he studied “nanoscale and quantum optoelectronics for data processing, communications and sensing applications.” According to his profile on ResearchGate.

The scientist, who has been a senior research fellow at MIPT since 2014, was awarded the Order of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2011.

He was also awarded the Young Scientist Award by the European Society for Materials Research in 2012.

Veidianen is one of four hikers to die in Berchtesgadner within days.

On Saturday morning, a 29-year-old Austrian woman suffered a fatal fall on the Hochkalter mountain in Ramsau – the same day a 49-year-old man also died in the morning on Reiteralpe but from natural causes.

Meanwhile, the day before, a 57-year-old woman from the Black Forest fell from a height of more than 650 feet to her death while walking with her husband in the Almbach Fjord near Marktschellenberg.
