Chihiro Fujioka, Director of Super Mario RPG, has expressed interest in making the Super Mario RPG 2 that would end his career.
Fujioka has worked on many different titles dating back to the early 1980s. This includes several entries in Mario & Luigi in AlphaDream – a studio he co-founded, although he left the studio in 2015 and Closed in 2019 after filing for bankruptcy.
Regarding the interest in developing Super Mario RPG 2, Fujioka comments came when asked about the topic in an interview with MINMAX. Share the following with the outlet:
“Yeah, I totally would like to make one…in my career, I’ve been in a lot of games, and I’d really like the last one to be another Mario RPG if possible.”
“I think Mario & Luigi is cool, but I’d like to go back and create a Mario RPG where you only control Mario.”
Fujioka was also asked if he had any story ideas for a new Mario RPG. However, he did not share any details, merely saying, “This is a secret.”
