A Ukrainian sniper has recounted the moment he avenged his wounded comrade by precisely killing a Russian soldier.

“In Bakhmut, my comrade was hit by Russian bullets. I tracked him down and hit him when he was shooting with an RPG. Then I went to my wounded friend, showed him the video, and said: It’s over. I took it and said: ‘Revenge is yours.’”
The voiceover in the video said that the sniper, with the call sign Taras, has been fighting a war for years and is considered by Ukrainian special operations forces to be one of the best snipers in the country. Insider was unable to independently verify the murder claim.
Taras said that all of their shots were recorded by their rifle sights and that a killing is not recorded unless there is video confirmation of it.
He said that as a sniper, it is important not to exaggerate, and that some who make outlandish claims about hitting targets at very long distances are not being honest.
He said his furthest successful shot was at 1,595 metres, or about 5,233 feet, but said it took him three attempts to get it right.
The job takes years of training and costs tens of thousands of dollars, representing an expensive but worthwhile investment, Taras said.
