The Federal Aviation Administration said Saturday that a worker at Montgomery Regional Airport in Alabama died Saturday in a ramp accident.

Montgomery Regional Airport said in a statement that an American Airlines/Piedmont Airlines ground crew member was “involved in a death” around 3 p.m.

American Airlines said in a statement that it was “devastated by the incident involving a team member,” adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and members of our local team. We are focused on ensuring everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time.”

All inbound and outbound flights were suspended for more than four hours on Saturday afternoon, but the airport said it returned to normal operations until 8:30 p.m.

The name of the victim was not released, and the circumstances of the death were not immediately released. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.

The flight, operated by regional carrier Envoy Air, was scheduled to leave Montgomery for Dallas-Fort Worth on Saturday afternoon, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com.
