A 16-year-old boy accused of killing a Montreal street gang member has escaped from a youth detention center in Petersburg, Ontario.
He was arrested last week while he was already in jail in Kitchener, Ontario, and was accused of shooting Stevens Conde on February 6 in the parking lot of a shopping center in Dolart-des-Ormeaux.
He and a second suspect fled in a vehicle that was found abandoned the next morning. The SPVM investigation identified Mohammed as the shooter.
The accused went on the run on July 21, two days after appearing via video conference in the Quebec court’s youth division while at a youth center in Ontario.
Photographs of him were circulated even at a young age
Authorities are appealing for the public’s help in locating the teenager. Despite his young age, the judge authorized the temporary release of photographs that would allow him to be identified due to the dangerous nature of the individual.
At the time of his escape, he was wearing pants and a long-sleeved gray sweatshirt.
The victim was known to authorities
Stevens Conte was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by multiple bullets. It was the 5the Murder of the year in the metropolis.
The 42-year-old man, who had some criminal record and ties to street gangs, was known to authorities because of his association with Markens Wilm, an influential member of the “Bellezas Project” in Rosemont.
The latter was convicted in 2022 of killing a Hells Angels member in Ontario along with two other men. A fourth accused in the case, Mark Issa El-Khoury, was acquitted at the end of the trial and later murdered in Laval in December 2023.
During his lifetime, Mr. Contave was notably charged in 2003 with two other individuals for kidnapping, forcible confinement and drug trafficking.
He was convicted of only one drug-related charge.
