“The accused asked on at least three occasions [l’aîné] To leave his ground, the latter continued to advance. Given the size of the dog, it appears that he does not know him, and that his master does not control him. […]”He reasonably believed the dog represented a threat,” explained Judge Benoît Caribi.
Abraham LeBlanc shed a few tears as he heard the verdict of acquittal this morning at the Sainte-Hyacinthe court, then hugged his loved ones. He went on trial last May for manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
“It’s definitely a relief,” he summed up Register leaving the audience.
In October 2019, 92-year-old Lionel Martino was walking his dog Wilson. In front of Abraham LeBlanc’s residence on rue Jean-Mans in Beloeil, he walked his land with the animals.
Unhappy, LeBlanc told him to back off three times. But the elder continued to approach. Unaware of the dog, LeBlanc saw it as a threat to his 6-year-old son, who was playing hockey in the yard.
The older man tripped on a piece of cement in the parking lot and then hit his head on the ground. Mr. was bleeding from the head. Martino’s condition deteriorated rapidly and he died within hours.
Abraham LeBlanc himself called 911: “I pushed him. He lost his legs, he fell to the ground. He hit himself, he was bleeding behind the head,” he explained to the dispatcher.
