Perry, best known for his hilarious role as Chandler Bing on the series, was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times. There was no suspicion of foul play.

Perry’s death prompted an outpouring of remembrances in Hollywood, including from “Friends” creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright.

“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved friend Matthew. It still seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have him as part of our lives.” “He was an amazing talent. It’s common to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him portray Chandler Bing, there has been no one else for us. We will always cherish the joy, light, and amazing intelligence he brought to every moment – not only in his work, but in life as well. He was always the funniest person in the room. What’s more, he was the most beautiful, with a giving heart and selflessness.

diverseDaniel Daddario honored Perry as “the comedic soul of Friends”, writing that “Chandler’s acerbic wit, as played by an accomplished comedian, is presented as neither more nor less than observational humor for his friends: one degree more cruel and it would have ruined the show.” One degree softer and he wouldn’t have gone down. And yet it was always that way, no matter how good or bad the scenario was, no matter what Perry was going through.
