Amazon Prime Video went viral on Netflix over its new password-sharing policy in a tweet that went viral on Thursday.
The streaming service targeted the company during 2017, announcing that “Love is sharing passwordNetflix has since discouraged account holders in the US from doing so because it began restricting accounts to “use by a single household” this week.
The UK’s Prime Video Twitter account, in a tweet aimed at Netflix, shared a graphic of a page with streaming profiles that read, “Who’s watching? Whoever has our password ❤️.”
Prime Video Tweet It has accumulated more than 43 million views, 78,000 retweets, and 576,000 likes, as of Saturday morning.
The tweet arrived just days after Netflix, In a blog post on Tuesdayaccount holders stated that “everyone who lives” in a household can use their live streaming service on the go or at home.
The streaming service added that people can transfer their profiles to a “new membership they pay for” or “purchase an additional member” for an additional $7.99 per month if someone lives outside their home.
Netflix, which outlined its crackdown plans in February, is set to limit additional members’ additions to accounts with its “Standard” ($15.49 per month) and “Premium” ($19.99 per month) plans. Mashable noted.
Blockbuster, which has fallen to one retailer remaining since filing for bankruptcy in 2010, also derided the streaming service. It once had a chance to buy in 2000.
“A friendly reminder that when you used to rent videos from us. We didn’t care who you shared them with…as long as you returned it on time. netflix,” Blockbuster wrote.
