An obstetrician again allegedly made sexual comments to a patient

A Montreal gynecologist allegedly re-offended a patient in the delivery room for sexually suggestive comments that had already been dismissed two years earlier. His professional discipline is very worrying and we want to prevent him from practicing hastily.

Rarely, the Syndicate of the College of Physicians of Quebec (CMQ) filed a motion yesterday demanding an immediate temporary strike.R Alan B. Kleiman, pending a final decision in this new case against him.

He is accused of making sexual comments to a patient after a gynecological examination in the delivery room at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal on April 22.

According to the syndic complaint, DR Kleiman would not have informed his patient that he was going to perform a vaginal exam.

“He took more time than was normally required” and “his eyes were on the patient’s genitalia,” it was written.

As he removed his fingers and gloves, the doctor finished his examination by saying, in English, “Thank you for a good time.”Thanks for the good time)

The trustee further alleges dR On April 22nd, Kleiman performed a gynecological examination at the hospital on a patient in full labor, subject to a one-year practice limitation, without another woman in the room.

“Apparently, the respondent represents a danger to the safety of the public, both now and in the future”, the Trustee, Dr. Nicholas Raymond, Dr.R Klyman “repeats the same behaviors”.

While not appearing for the hearing yesterday, DR Kleiman opposes the motion to strike, said his attorney, Christine Cork. However, pending the decision of the disciplinary board, the doctor has promised not to practice till today.

Yesterday, Me Cork asked not to reveal the pledge to the media, and he withdrew after the last trustee contest.

DR This isn’t Kleiman’s first complaint for sexist comments. In 2019, two years after various opinions were published in 2015, the gynecologist was fired (See below)

However, since 2017, the law provides for a minimum ban of five years for sexual abuse, but the council has made efforts to guide its cooperation during the investigation and the consultation with the doctor in communicating with the patients.

When he returned to practice last year, DR Kleiman admitted to the council that his comments were “totally inappropriate” but that the “file is just a simple question of misinterpretation,” which indicated a verdict.

He admits that “realizing that not everyone has the same sense of humor, he should be more quiet, no longer play pranks, and not talk to his patients as he does to his residents.” .

This obstetrician has been the subject of at least three complaints since 2006 for similar facts. However, the Syndic is not fit to register charges in these cases.

In 2010, CMQ also recommended DR Clayman to register for a workshop on the doctor/patient relationship.

♦ The hearing on the petition for temporary strike will continue next Monday. Many witnesses will be examined.
