Didn't do that Do the thing.
Ariana DeBose wasn't impressed when she was labeled an “actress who thinks she's a diva” at the 2024 Critics' Choice Awards.
While presenting the award for best song at the ceremony on Sunday, “Last of Us” star Bella Ramsey listed “famous voices” in the category, including Billie Eilish, Lenny Kravitz and Dua Lipa, before joking: “And then there are the actors.” Who also think they're singers: Jack Black, Ariana DeBose, and Ryan Gosling.
The camera panned to the Tony Award-nominated actress, 32, who appeared shocked by the joke before panning to a laughing Ryan Gosling – whose song “I'm Just Ken” from the movie “Barbie” ended up winning the award.
“No, I didn't find it funny. Lol,” DeBose — who was nominated for “This Wish” from the Disney animated film of the same name — wrote in an Instagram Story after the awards ceremony.
The viral clip sparked immediate backlash from DeBose's fans, who criticized the show's writers for disrespecting the Broadway star.
“Ariana DeBose, Oscar Winner, Tony Nominee, OG cast member in Hamilton on Broadway…. 'She thinks she's a diva'?!? Who wrote this piece?! I want names #CriticsChoiceAwards,” one fan fumed, another added. “Put some respect on the name Ariana DeBose!”
“The disrespect to Oscar winner, Tony nominee, Broadway star, Ariana DeBose, is terrible. The look on her face really said it all,” one person wrote.
“Imagine the audacity to say that Oscar-winner, Broadway-trained Ariana DeBose is not a singer. “Finish this mother,” another said, as fans continually named her biggest singing roles, including “Hamilton” and “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical”.

DeBose won an Academy Award in 2022 for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, and was nominated for a Tony Award in 2018 for her role as Donna Summer.
The actress was also back in the news recently after comedian Joe Kooy's opening monologue at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards flopped earlier this month.
We were very wrong. Come back, queen. “Your people need you,” journalist David Mack wrote on X along with an image of DeBose’s infamous opening monologue at the 2023 BAFTA Awards.
The singer went viral last year for her raps about female candidates, which included the now-famous line, “Angela Bassett did the thing, Viola Davis is my queen of women / Blanchett, Kate, you're a genius, and Jamie Lee, you're all of us!”
Jamie Lee Curtis, who got a shout-out in the opening number, Critics later panned it“These people should shut up, back off, and let this woman shine her light because she's amazing.”
