A Brossard man suspected of posing as a police officer to kidnap his ex-wife six months ago in Ontario was finally arrested Tuesday afternoon on Montreal’s South Shore.
Mohamed Lilo, 35, allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, 37-year-old Iranian immigrant Elnas Hajdamiri, on January 12, and we still have no news of him.
Quebecer allegedly kidnapped her with the help of two men disguised as police officers, claiming he had an arrest warrant against her.
All three have visited family members in Wasaga Beach, about 150 kilometers north of Toronto.
This is where the victim took refuge after an unsuccessful first kidnapping attempt a month ago.
Despite fierce protests from his relatives, three men took Elnas Hajdamiri captive in a stolen white SUV.
No ransom demand has been sent to his family and the reasons for his abduction are unknown, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.
A little balm
Six months after Elnas Hajdamiri disappeared, his ex-wife, Mohammad Lilo, was arrested in Brossard on Tuesday in connection with the case.
Looking at the cameras waiting for her at the airport, Lilo made no other comment.
Three OPP investigators were waiting at the Saint-Hubert airport to take him to court in Ontario.
The suspect is expected to be formally charged Wednesday with kidnapping, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping.
In a press release issued in the afternoon, the families of the missing expressed their relief.
“The last few months of non-stop searching for her have been difficult and painful. […] We hope the arrest of this suspect will bring us closer to finding her”, read.
Pan fried
Two of the charges against Lilo relate to an incident last December, months after the couple split.
Mme Then two masked men hit Hajdamiri with a frying pan.
The police said that the suspects escaped after the intervention of the concerned citizen.
The 30-year-old still needed 40 stitches in his head following the violent attack in the parking lot of his condo building in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
Two others were charged in April in connection with the attempted kidnapping.
Under surveillance
Between these two events, Elnas Hajdamiri seems to have been seen day and night.
A surveillance device was found under M’s vehicle.me During Hajdamiri’s police interrogation, one of his relatives told CBC News.
The national broadcaster has been able to confirm that Mohamed Lilo hired a private detective to track down his ex-wife in the days leading up to her abduction.
