One of the highlights from last weekend’s season opener Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix At the Bahrain International Circuit it was an appearance before Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro.
The car is the toughest, track-only version of the already extreme model Valkyrie road carIt is scheduled to be built in 40 customer cars, in addition to two prototypes. One such dynamic debut was used for the first time in Bahrain.
Aston Martin has always bragged that the Valkyrie AMR Pro will come close to matching the performance of an F1 race car. However, the car was going somewhat slower during the weekend stunt, having completed a lap of the 3.36-mile BIC in a time of around 1:54. That’s nearly 20 seconds slower than the fastest laps set by the F1 cars during the actual race.
Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro
The Valkyrie AMR Pro is actually a very different beast from the Valkyrie, with the aerodynamics, body and central monocoque completely changed from the road car. This is because AMR Pro uses original designs of Valkyrie Le Mans Hypercar Program Which Aston Martin withdrew in 2020 after deciding to focus on Formula 1 rather than the World Endurance Championship.
Both cars share a 6.5-liter V-12 engine developed by Cosworth, although the AMR Pro bypasses the car’s KERS hybrid system. The maximum output of the V-12 engine alone is around 1,000 horsepower.
To ensure future owners get the most out of their cars, Aston Martin is planning a special program that will provide access to driving instructors at scheduled track events. More details about the program will be announced at a later time.
