Bike lane accident: 43-year-old cyclist dies in Quebec

A 43-year-old cyclist lost his life Wednesday morning while still in limbo on the Corridor des Cheminodes bicycle path in Quebec City.

The Quebec City Police Department (SPVQ) was alerted around 4 a.m. to a man passed out near his electric bicycle at the intersection of Rue de la Girandole and boulevard des Gradins. However, we don’t know how long the person was injured on the ground.

CPR was performed on the victim, but the 40-year-old was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, said William Robitaille, a spokesman for the police force.

The scene has been preserved and investigators and forensic identification units are expected to visit the scene to try to shed light on the incident. However, the man’s death appears to be of accidental origin, it said.

Although the investigation has not yet established a definite plot of events, everything suggests that the victim hit a metal barrier at high speed, which is used to prevent cars from passing on the cycle path.

“But the investigation continues,” Mr. Robitaille underlines.
