Brock Purdy doesn’t care about records or awards, but he continues to break them and make NFL history.
The 49ers quarterback led the league in completion percentage (70.2) and passer rating (116.1) entering San Francisco’s 28-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and that accuracy has him on the verge of joining an impressive list that includes none other than franchise legend Joe Montana.
Purdy had had six straight games with a completion percentage of 70 or higher before Sunday, becoming the fourth quarterback in NFL history to do so seven straight after connecting on 70.4 percent of his passes (19 of 27) against the Seahawks. Only Montana (eight straight games in 1989), Sam Bradford (seven straight in 2016) and Drew Brees (seven straight in 2016) have done that.
Purdy also led the NFL in touchdown percentage (6.9), yards per attempt (9.6) and yards gained per completion (13.7) over 12 games entering Sunday. He has four games with three or more TD passes and a passer rating of 140 or higher, tying Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers for the most such games in a single season in NFL history.
Since taking over as the 49ers’ starter late last season, Purdy has a 15-3 record and has broken franchise and league records while making a strong case for this season’s NFL MVP award. Right now, he’s just focused on winning games, and he did just that on Sunday.
