Quebecers traded heat for rain this National Day weekend.
A low pressure system will hit southern and central Quebec over the weekend as temperatures drop in La Belle province. So, according to Environment Canada forecasts, “heavy rain” is expected from Saturday evening.
Between 50 and 70 mm is expected to accumulate in these areas by Sunday evening, the agency said, which issued a rain warning for several parts of Quebec.
“Heavy rains may cause flash floods and water logging on roads. Flooding is likely in low-lying areas,” the central government has warned.
A strong chance of rain is expected throughout the day Saturday in the far south, particularly in the Montreal region and south of Estrie. Further north, in the Quebec area, it will be cloudy during the day, cloudier as the hours go by, but the rain won’t start until too late at night.
Heavy rains are expected from Sunday, the agency said, adding that there will be thundershowers at places.
The sun should come out again for Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, much to the delight of Quebecers who want to take part in Monday’s celebrations.
