“Anyone who lives in Quebec knows they need a third link. Both bridges have serious problems. […] I know there are unanswered questions. I have it Mr. Discussed with Legault, we know that,” said Mme Prime Minister François Legault confirmed at a press conference that he would be a candidate for the CAQ in Chutes-de-la-Chaudière.
Listen to Vincent Dessureault’s interview with Martine Biron on QUB Radio:
In his past as a political analyst, Martin Biron criticized the lack of traffic studies that would support the construction of a $6.5 billion tunnel between Quebec and Lévis.
“A planning office is in place and we will answer the questions. I hope that at the beginning of the next term, we can answer these questions quickly,” the candidate added.
For his part, Prime Minister Legault clarified that there are already studies. “You have to refine them,” he says, especially to take pandemics and teleworking into account. “But to me, as Martin said, it’s obvious that we need a new connection,” says Mr. Legault.
Also, the two are now talking about a “replacement link” that will become necessary as the two current bridges age.
The Prime Minister also took advantage of his speech to review the progress of the work. Although the CAQ has promised to deliver the first spade before the elections, the tunnel is in the first drilling phase to determine the nature of the soil.
“Yes, I would have liked the work to progress more quickly. But we had an epidemic and we also reviewed the plan to go from six-lane to four-lane,” he justified himself.
Ethics
Surprisingly, M.me Biron had to explain his fast track between his role as a political analyst in Quebec for Radio-Canada and radical politics within the party in power.
“I know I’ve done things right. I’ve built my life around ethics,” he said, while asserting that he “didn’t wear both hats” as an analyst and future candidate.
Martine Biron says she rejected the CAQ’s first approach earlier this year and handed in a new proposal last July while on vacation.
She is not afraid that her past analyzes will harm her in relationships with her new colleagues. Mme Biron had strongly criticized the Quebec meeting in his last report deficiency.
“I talked about Genevieve Guilbault, her arrogance, her big head, but at the same time I have already said that this woman is gifted,” he noted.
Unlike many MPs and candidates in the region, Ms.me Guilbault did not attend the event, as did ministers Jonathan Julian and Eric Keir, and was criticized in M’s speech.me Byron. It was argued that the three ministers will participate in the cabinet meeting ahead of the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The deputy prime minister took his new colleague’s views philosophically, while rejecting the label of arrogance. “I don’t hold it against him. I understand the work you have to do, and Mr.me Peron,” he told parliamentary reporters.
“disgusting”
In addition, the outgoing MP for Chutes-de-la-Chaudiere took advantage of the press conference to respond to the comments of Mario Fortier, the Conservative candidate in the riding. The latter said on Monday that Mark Pickard, who has been elected in the constituency since 2003, would be “full” to accommodate the star candidate.
“It’s simply awkward because Mario Fortier knows my wife very well. […] It’s petty politics,” said Mr Pickard, who is retiring from politics to care for his terminally ill wife.
