Chirica de Armas, who represented Uruguay in the Miss World competition in 2015, has died. She was 26 years old.
Local media reported She died last week after a two-year battle with cervical cancer. Friends and family paid emotional tribute to the brunette beauty queen.
“Fly high, little sister. Always and forever,” her brother Mike de Armas said on social media.
Miss Uruguay, Carla Romero, lamented that de Armas was “too sophisticated for this world. One of the most beautiful women I’ve ever met.”
“I remember you with that beautiful glow,” wrote Anto Ciafaglia, a close friend.
De Armas was not among the top 30 girls at the 2015 Miss World pageant in Sanya, China, but she was one of only six 18-year-old girls to compete.
At the time, one outlet praised it “Her beautiful face, towering height and attractive personality” while describing her as “one of Uruguay’s most promising young talents”.
“I always wanted to be a model, whether a beauty model, an advertising model or a fashion model,” she said in a translated interview with NetUruguay. Per Univision.
“I love everything related to fashion and I believe that the dream of any beauty pageant girl is to have the opportunity to participate in the Miss Universe competition. I am very happy that I am able to live this challenging experience.”
Off the runway, De Armas sold personal care, makeup and hair products through a boutique Chez de Armas Beauty Studio.
She was also said to have dedicated her time to the childhood cancer organization Pérez Scarmini Foundation.
Cervical cancer occurs most often in people over the age of 30, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The agency says the disease can be prevented through regular screening and the HPV vaccine.
