Kansas City Chiefs Wide receiver Rashi Rice turned himself in to police on Thursday, a day after an arrest warrant was issued on charges stemming from a six-car crash in Dallas on March 30.
According to multiple media reports, Rice surrendered to Glen Heights, Texas, police and was then booked into the regional jail in DeSoto, Texas. He was subsequently released on bail.
Police allege that Rice, who was driving a Lamborghini, and SMU cornerback Teddy Knox, who was driving a Corvette, were speeding on the North Central Freeway (U.S. 75) when they caused a chain reaction wreck that left four people with minor injuries.
Rice and Knox each face one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.
Rice's attorney, Royce West, said in a statement: “I want to reiterate Mr. Rice's continued cooperation with law enforcement. Mr. Rice acknowledges his actions and feels deeply for those injured as a result of this incident. Our legal team is now tasked with reviewing all legal documents.”
Last week, Rice apologized to the affected parties and accepted responsibility for the incidents.
He posted on his Instagram Story on April 3, “Today I met with Dallas Police investigators regarding Saturday's incident. I take full responsibility for my role in this matter and will continue to cooperate with necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone affected by Saturday's incident.” incident.”
Police said the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette left the scene without checking to see if anyone needed medical attention or providing their information.
