Chris Evans shares his thoughts on the character of Captain America, his initial reluctance to take on the role and why he’s not ready to return to the MCU anytime soon.
In an interview with GQ In the October issue, Evans says he somewhat agrees with Quentin Tarantino’s comments last year that Marvel characters are the stars, not the actor portraying them. “Part of the Marvel process in Hollywood is that you have all these actors who become famous playing these characters, but they Not movie stars. “Captain America is the star,” Tarantino said in a November 2022 interview with Mediaite, and Evans agrees.
“That was the beauty of working on the Marvel movies. You never had to be front and center,” Evans said. “Even in your own movies sometimes. Quentin Tarantino said it recently and I said, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You’re there But you don’t feel the burden of it.
He also revealed that he was hesitant to take on the role at first. “I was really apprehensive about taking on this role at first,” he says. At the time, he was almost 30 years old. You always end up wondering, is this what I should do?
Evans left Los Angeles when he finished 2019 avengers: endgame, The seventh of seven films under which he was contractually obligated to portray Captain America. He hasn’t ruled out returning for another Marvel movie, but says it probably won’t happen anytime soon.
“I would never say never, just because it was a great experience,” Evans said. But I’m also very precious to her. It’s something I’m very proud of. Like I said, sometimes I can’t believe this happened. And I don’t want a black eye if it feels like a cash grab or if it doesn’t live up to expectations or if it feels like it’s not connected to that original thing. So, it’s not too soon.”
He also admits that he’s ready to “maybe act a little less in my life. I have a lot of other interests. Look, I’ve never climbed any kind of mountain in this field. I don’t have Oscars and I don’t combine with the other names at the top of the mountain in any way.” “Shapes. But I also feel very satisfied.”
