Four people found themselves in the waters of the St. Lawrence River following a collision between a sailboat and a boat. NM SwanoyConnects Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive with Isle-aux-Coudres, Sunday morning.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which was called to intervene as reinforcements, the event occurred around 10:30 a.m., when thick fog covered the river.
Despite the quick response of the Coast Guard and boat crews, a woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with serious injuries from the impact.
A man in his 50s was also taken away with minor injuries.
According to SQ spokeswoman Hélène Saint-Pierre, by the end of the afternoon there was no reason to fear for their lives.
For its part, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will open an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Cross-shore travel resumed after 2 pm.
