In Coteau-du-Lac in Montérégie, a woman was seriously injured when her car was hit by a VIA train on Monday morning.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the collision occurred at Chemin de la Rivière-Delisle Sud at 7:45 a.m., almost an hour after the departure of the train serving the Montreal-Toronto connection.
The life of the hospitalized person is feared.
No one was injured in the passenger train which remained on the track after the incident.
SQ sent investigators to the scene to understand the circumstances that led to the collision.
According to preliminary information gathered by the SQ, the van did not cross the train tracks during the collision, but no other information was immediately available.
“At present no hypothesis has been put forward, namely whether there was inattention on the part of the driver, or whether there was a fault in the components that signaled the arrival of the train,” Sergeant Louis-Philippe Rueal said. A spokesman for the provincial police.
