Mélanie Hubert, president of the Federation of Autonomous Education (FAE), told TVA Nouvelles that recent progress in negotiations with the government could make it possible to suspend the indefinite general strike.
FAE bodies will meet during the day and discuss this possibility later on Friday. They will have to decide whether the progress noted at the negotiating table in recent days is enough to end the 65,500 FAE teachers’ walkout from November 23.
However, the meeting had already been planned for some time and was not an unusual meeting called in the last few hours, the FAE clarified. We will have to wait until Friday tomorrow before the FAE officials’ verdict is made public.

Despite the second week of strike without any income, FAE members continue to press for better teaching conditions in the long term.
However, the outbreak of an indefinite general strike had a moderate impact on the negotiation process.
Remember Melanie Hubert is hoping to sign a new joint contract before Christmas.
