Officially, Samsung’s new foldable phones will launch on July 24 (Wednesday), although pre-orders may start shipping a few days earlier. This is pretty much the last chance to get pre-order privileges for the two new Galaxy Z phones.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is priced at $1,800 for the 512GB model (due to the free storage upgrade). Samsung is offering up to $1,200 in trade-in credit — the Z Fold5 is $1,200, the Z Fold4 is $1,000, and the Z Fold3 is $900. If you’re switching from an older Ultra, for example, the S24 Ultra is $900, while the S23 Ultra is $800.
If you don’t want to trade in, Amazon is also selling the Galaxy Z Fold6 for $1,800 for the 512GB model, but it bundles it with a $300 Amazon gift card.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 (512GB) is down to $1,000 with a $100 instant credit and a free storage upgrade. The trade-in offer is limited to $650 — you can get that for the S24 Ultra, Z Flip5, or Z Fold5. The older Z Flip4 is trading in for $550, and the Z Flip3 is trading in for $450.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 (512GB) is priced at $1,100 on Amazon, but it comes with a $200 Amazon gift card, so the actual price may be less than what Samsung is offering if you don’t want to trade in an old phone.
If you’re not a fan of foldable phones, you can get the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra (12/512GB) for the same price as the Flip — $1,100. You’ll get much better cameras with the Ultra, plus the S Pen. Better battery life and faster charging, too. The downside is that the S24 Ultra is a fairly large device.
You can also buy the Galaxy S24+, which has cameras comparable to the Z Flip6 and Z Fold6, is cheaper, and has a better battery too.
We’re in the mood for some gaming, so let’s take a look at what’s on offer. The Viture One XR is a compact way to bring a virtual 120-inch screen with you. It has a 1080p display at 60 frames per second for each eye and has myopia adjustment. There’s also an electrochromic film that can darken the glasses to reduce distractions.
You can connect these devices to a compatible phone using a USB-C cable — the Galaxy Z Fold6 and S24 models will both run their own DeX interface (note: the Z Flip6 does not support video output). These devices also work with the iPhone 15, as well as devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally. Note that this offer requires a Prime subscription.
Glasses are great for travel, but for home use, the Samsung Odyssey G85SB 34-inch monitor would be a better choice. This curved QD-OLED monitor runs at 3440 x 1440 pixels at 175Hz (0.03ms response time) and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. The monitor features a Game Center, which can handle game streaming (Xbox, Nvidia, etc.) without connecting a PC/console. This is also a smart TV, so all the usual Tizen features are available too.
If you just want to use your existing TV but it doesn’t natively support cloud gaming, the $30 Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K can give you access to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streaming service. Note that you’ll need a compatible controller.
An Xbox controller would be fine (and for gaming on Viture glasses too). But check out the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro, it’s like a Swiss Army knife. It supports 3 modes – wired via USB-C, wireless via Bluetooth and wireless via 2.4GHz RF. There’s a built-in OLED display that helps you switch profiles – you can remap and customize the buttons. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack with an ESS DAC, so you can plug in wired headphones.
