Harpreet Singh Uppal, 41, with links to the criminal underworld, and his 11-year-old son were shot dead in their car at a gas station in the city’s south around noon. . Their deaths were apparent and were pronounced at the scene by the police.

A friend of the young victim was also in the car. He was not injured.

As explained by the police, the killers deliberately targeted the father, who followed them to the scene of the murder.

“We know, unfortunately, that once the killer or killers knew the son was there, they deliberately killed him,” Edmonton Police Superintendent Colin Derkson said.

“It’s sick and crazy. I think most gang members would agree,” he added.

The man was shot dead on Thursday and his family was already targeted in 2021 when a gunman fired through the window of the pizzeria where they were eating. Harpreet Singh Uppal was scheduled to appear in May on various charges, including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Edmonton police now fear the two murders could lead to a gang war within the city.
