A man suspected of strangling his partner at a Terrebonne nursing home was charged Thursday with first-degree murder.
Gilles Brassard, 81, was arrested Wednesday evening at the Pierre-Le Gardeur hospital, where his condition improved in the last hours. His appearance took place Thursday via video conference from his hospital bed.
The man is suspected of killing his partner Thérèse Brassard-Lévesque (79) last Saturday in Ressource de Lanaudière. The woman, who had Alzheimer’s disease, lived in one of the resource’s 144 units, located at the intersection of Highways 40 and 640. Staff found the couple passed out in the woman’s room on Saturday.
According to our information, the person has taken an overdose of drugs to take his own life. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police were waiting for his condition to improve before arresting him.
A charge of first-degree murder is the most serious charge in Canadian criminal law.
This murder is the ninth murder of a woman this year.
