background story
Flames general manager Craig Conroy confirmed this the athlete That Toffoli indicated he would likely not re-sign for about two weeks. He expressed his desire to return to Calgary during the team’s Garbage Day interviews and wanted to do something relatively quickly.
But both the team and Toffoli eventually got together and realized the deal wasn’t going to happen. – Mackenzie
Why did Flame make such a move
The first trade in the Craig Conroy era sees the Flames part with the leading scorer in exchange for a player and roster selection. Sharanjović had 24 goals in the 2021-22 season and it’s clear that Calgary is hoping he will return to that form rather than the 13-goal seasons that back him.
Sharangovich is an RFA and is eligible for arbitration.
“We thought it (was) right for us to go younger,” said Conroy. the athlete. “For a guy who’s scored goals in the league. He’s got good size, a good penalty killer, and can play all three (zones). He’s versatile, he can play all three positions which was a bonus for us. And to have us rebound in the third round is great.” – Mackenzie
Trade valuation for calgary
On its surface, the comeback will look underwhelming for Flames fans. But whoever gets Toffoli will take their chances on the over-30 winger coming off his best year. There’s also no immediate indication he’s willing to commit to New Jersey long-term.
So, ordering the Moon wasn’t a potential mission. But the Flames recapture the 25-year-old whose best years lie ahead and make it back to the third round. The Flames also increased their current cap size to $5.5 million.
When we wrote about a possible trade return to Calgary, we looked back at the trade that sent him to Calgary from Montreal, which included a first-round pick along with a peripheral player and prospect. The Flames ended up being a playoff team that year so the selection was in the later stages of the opening round.
If a team ends up picking one of these teams in the first round, fans might feel a little differently.
Conroy said the athlete He sought a “younger player” who could produce offense as well as a draft pick. The Flames had discussions with other teams who were going to get them a similar type of older player in Toffoli, but ended up opting for a deal that settled Sharanjović for them.
“It was very fitting to have Igor join us,” said Conroy.
Now, with the Flames entering the draft with six draft picks and a few other transferable players, we await their next steps.
Where will Noah Hanifen go? Is Mikael Backlund destined for a new home? How are the negotiations with Elias Lindholm? Conroy could still emerge as the busiest general manager for this week’s draft by the end of the week. – Mackenzie
What does the Tofuli landing mean for demons
Demons are great offensive generators but they can use more ultimate talent. Having a player like Toffoli really helps that happen. NJ should be able to put him in a position to fully thrive.
In his best seasons, he’s had solid playmakers by his side and the Devils have quite a few to mix and match with. It likely means Thomas Tatar is leaving as a free agent, and while he has some strengths in the two-way, this promotion is no doubt because it gives the team three legitimate scoring streaks to count on. – Goldman
What does this deal look like for New Jersey?
The price was more than manageable for Toffoli, which should have been a hotter commodity given its potency and affordability that most teams will be able to stomach. While Sharanjovic has more potential than 2022-23 showed, his time on the ice and use of it were really limited last year.
So it made sense that NJ would be shopping for it. The fact that they were able to actively move the player they were shopping to raise their attack a notch higher is a definite win for the Demons Department. At this point, Sharangovich is playing better elsewhere, as he will likely have more playing time in a less rambunctious Devils side. – Goldman
