Forget OLED — this stunning new 150-inch Laser TV is ultra-bright

Hisense is really taking its “big screen, big value” mantra for its 2024 TV lineup seriously. After unveiling the shockingly bright U9N Mini-LED TV earlier this year, the company is now launching a successor to the Hisense PL1 Laser TV capable of near-4K resolution with screens up to 150 inches wide, NotebookCheck ReportsBest of all, it will be launched later this month in Europe.

Unlike traditional TVs, Hisense Laser TVs are ultra-short throw projectors that display your favorite movies and shows across top streaming services on a matching specialized display screen available in pre-set sizes. The original Hisense PL1 Laser TV came in display sizes up to 120 inches, so this is a big jump for the second generation.

But the bigger screen isn’t the only improvement. The new Hisense PL2 has a lower throw ratio (0.22 compared to 0.25 on the PL1), which means you can adjust it to be more flush with the wall. For example, to project an 80-inch image, it would only need to be 4.5 inches away from the wall, while a 150-inch image would need about 18 inches of space.

The PL2 also has a higher brightness level of 2,700 lumens, compared to the PL1’s 2,200 lumens, and Hisense claims the laser light sources have a lifespan of over 25,000 hours.

The refresh rate has also been upgraded for 2K signals, and the PL2 offers support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, as well as built-in 30W speakers with Dolby Atmos. Of course, it still supports the same dedicated sports and game modes on the PL2, which can automatically reduce latency and apply motion smoothing, as well as the option to optimize the image automatically or manually. Running VIDAA U7, the PL2 is also compatible with AirPlay 2 and Apple Homekit. As for ports, this monitor comes with three: HDMI 2.1, USB, and an audio jack.

The Hisense PL2 Laser TV will launch in the EU later this month for €2,499. A US launch has yet to be announced, but if Hisense follows the same approach it did with the PL1 launch, we could see it in a few months.
