BOSTON — Former NFL offensive lineman and Boston College football star Gusder Cherilos has been accused of urinating on another passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight.
Gusder Cherylous was arrested.
Cherillos, 40, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, pleaded not guilty to charges of interfering with the operation of an aircraft, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest during his arraignment Monday in East Boston District Court. He was released on $2,500 bail.
Massachusetts State Police said they were called to Boston’s Logan Airport around 2 a.m. Sunday after Delta Flight 154 from Boston to Dublin, Ireland, returned to the airport. In a statement, police said the flight was diverted “due to an unruly passenger who urinated on another passenger on board.”
The passenger has been identified as Cherillos.
“The soldiers verbally ordered Cherilos to leave the plane, but he became angry and uncooperative. Eventually, the soldiers escorted Cherilos to the plane’s bridge and placed him under arrest,” police said in a statement.
Apology Gosder Sherillos
Cherillos did not comment to reporters as he left the courtroom Monday morning after new details in the case were revealed. He later issued a statement on social media, blaming the sleep medication.
“I would like to address media reports today about me in relation to an incident that occurred on a flight to Ireland last weekend,” Cherillos wrote. “The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and did not depart until after 12:30 a.m. In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I do not normally use, which resulted in behavior that was not representative of my character. I would like to apologize to the passengers and crew.”
Gosder Sherrillos Police Report
According to the police report, Cherillos appeared intoxicated when he arrived at Logan Airport. Before the plane took off, he allegedly got into an argument with another passenger over seating arrangements.
Then, about an hour into the flight, investigators said he approached an elderly woman, exposed himself, and emptied his “full bladder for approximately 20 seconds.”
Court documents said passengers and crew were in shock and feared for their safety. Flight crew tried to stop Cherilos, but they said he became disruptive and aggressive.
On his way to his seat, he allegedly struck an elderly man with his right hand, the report said.
Cherillos is 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 280 pounds. State police said troopers had to use “two sets of handcuffs to restrain him” when he was arrested because of his size.
Since the incident occurred while flying over Canadian waters, a federal investigation is also underway.
