Gaspe | Two killed in road accident, driver arrested

(Gaspé) A man must face justice in a three-vehicle crash that killed two people in Gaspé on Wednesday.

Emergency services were alerted at 1:45 p.m. to the collision on Route 132, also known as Boulevard Renard Est, in the Riviere-au-Renard sector.

“Of the three injured, unfortunately two deaths were recorded in the hospital. We are talking about two 18- and 19-year-olds,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokeswoman Sergeant Béatrice Dorsainville.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released.

The circumstances surrounding the three-vehicle collision around 10pm are still unclear. However, it is understood that none of the motorists were passengers on the plane.

A third injured driver was arrested.

“A driver has been arrested in connection with the collision. Charges will be determined during the trial. It has not been ruled out that impaired driving may have been a contributing factor in the collision,” said a spokesperson for the SQ.

The suspect should be detained until his appearance.

Road 132 was still closed to traffic, eight hours after the accident, at rue Laflamme, indefinitely.

“People from the Ministry of Transport attended and the bypass was constructed. Then, we have two investigators and a reconstructionist who are analyzing the scene,” Sergeant Torzainville pointed out a moment ago.

SQ investigation continues.
