(OTTAWA) Israel is “pleased” that Canada has joined the United States and France in saying that an explosion at a hospital in Gaza City last week was caused by an errant rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, Israel’s ambassador to Ottawa said Sunday.
“The loss of life at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital is a tragedy that horrifies every human being and is a reminder of the twin war crimes against Palestinians and Israelis committed by Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza,” Ido Mot declared in a press release. liberation
A rocket fired at a hospital on October 17 has become a new point of contention in the war between Israel and Hamas, with both sides blaming each other for the tragedy.
Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair issued a statement Saturday evening saying that an independent analysis by the Canadian Forces gives the government “high confidence” that the rocket did not come from Israel.
Canada has been slower than some of its allies to come to this conclusion. US President Joe Biden, who visited Tel Aviv on October 18, said US security intelligence showed the rocket had come from Gaza. France said its military had reached the same conclusion on October 20.
On October 17, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked Minister Blair to allow the Canadian military to conduct its own assessment. On October 19, he said Canada had seen “preliminary evidence” but would “take the necessary time to carefully review” and work with its allies to come to a firm conclusion.
The Canadian military assessment released its first report on Saturday. Both Mr Blair and Mr Trudeau were briefed on the findings, with Mr Blair making the report’s findings public just before 10 p.m.
Canada has yet to claim specific responsibility for the rocket’s origin. Mr. Moed said. The PIJ is the second largest armed group in Gaza, whose sole mission is military conquest of Israel to establish an Islamic state in all of Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.
Israel blames PIJ for the rocket and US officials said The New York Times Their early evidence also points the finger at PIJ.
“As Canada provides further updates, Israel assures that further findings by the Israel Defense Forces, including the Palestinian Islamic Jihad crime, will be identified by Canada through this war crime,” Mr. Mott said.
