George R.R. Martin
Author of the series “A Song of Ice and Fire.”
I'm pretty sure I've read every Stephen King novel…and most of his short stories and novellas as well. “Pretty sure,” I said, instead of “pretty sure.” King has written a lot of novels, and he writes them so quickly that I may have missed one or two along the way. If so, it is only due to a lack of interest, not a lack of interest. As soon as I realize that King has released a new book, I tend to immediately pick it up, take it home and… well, if I put it on my bookshelf, it might hang around for a while, but if I pick it up and open it, read the first page My doom has been sealed. There are a handful of writers whose novels can't be put down once they've started. They've got you, and there's nothing you can do but read, and read, and read, all night and all day, until the story is over.
Kelly Link
Author of “The Book of Love”
I was 16 when I read Skeleton Crew, and I was greedy for stories about other lives, other worlds, and the horrors lurking in those other places. I was blown away by the wonderful and extravagant array of stories in the collection. The film begins with “The Mist,” but “Mrs. Todd's Shortcut,” “The Short Trip,” and “The Raft” have stayed with me all my life. I still look at the floating docks suspiciously, and I wouldn't go into space for anything, even though, Like Mrs. Todd, I now live in a rural area and enjoy questionable shortcuts in the countryside.
Sissy Spacek
Actor “Carrey” and “Castle Rock”
Stephen King struck a nerve with the song “Carrie.” He created a story that gave a face to the underdog, and 50 years later it still resonates.
Diablo Cody
Screenwriter of “Jennifer's Body” and “Lisa Frankenstein”
I recognized Carrie, but I also felt pity and disgust for her. However, I was fascinated by With Chris Hargensen's character, she was beyond the usual beauty queen, she was vulgar, rebellious, and used to being detained. She was a monster, yes, but she was a bad bitch and ahead of her time. I think Chris was in mind when I created the character Jennifer in “Jennifer's Body.” After many years.
