Google Contacts now displays the local time and weather

Google Contacts has seen an uptick in new features this year and continues today with local time and weather information.

Entries with a title will have a card indicating the city and the current time. You can then get the temperature and status, which are displayed both visually and in text. Tapping into Google Search or the Weather app doesn’t get you a full forecast, which would be convenient. It should also be placed at the top of the page.

Google Contacts states the source, with weather.com responsible for the data, just as it does in Search. The full list gives you a shortcut to edit the address. In our brief test, the app wouldn’t show the time or weather for nearby locations.

It can be helpful to have this information before you call or text someone. Besides serving as a conversation starter (it’s valid!), it’s helpful to determine if now is a good time to ring.

Meanwhile, Google Contacts now uses a circular profile picture to replace the square edge-to-edge version. Another recent UI tweak placed the Call/Text/Video buttons in themed circles.

If you don’t see the weather and time card yet, turn off Google Contacts from the app’s info menu to load. We see it with version 4.14 and later this evening.
