We found out a couple of weeks ago that Google may be rebranding “Assistant with Bard” to just “Bard.” The company may not have decided on a new assistant named Bard yet, as the latest version of Google's app offers the name “Gemini” as a candidate.
About APK Insight: In this APK Insight post, we break down the latest version of the app that Google has uploaded to the Play Store. When we unpack these files (called APK files, in the case of Android apps), we are able to see different lines of code within those that hint at potential future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ship these features at all, and our explanation of what they are may be incomplete. We'll try to enable those that are close to being finished, however, to show you what they'll look like when they charge. With that in mind, read on.
With the latest beta release of the Google app (version 15.4.31.29) today, all threads and UIs that previously said “Bard” — formerly Bard's assistant — now say “Gemini.”
Bard Assistant, as announced in October with the Pixel 8, rebranding it to just Bard made sense. It matches the Bard experience people know Onlinewhile Google Assistant remains its own for now.
However, directly referring to the product by the model name is very strange. This appears to include renaming “Bard Advanced” — which was officially announced in December — to “Gemini Advanced.” As such, it would be something like: Gemini Advanced powered by Gemini Ultra.

What happens when Google comes up with a new large language model (LLM)? Will the name of the product people actually use change every time? Although I'm not a huge fan of the name “cool,” people are familiar with it now and the renaming seems counterintuitive to Google's momentum.
However, now – before launch – would be a good time for Google to rename things. Whatever the case, we don't have the full story yet.
Meanwhile, Google 15.4 also reveals that YouTube Music will become a Bard extension that you can call up:
Want to connect YouTube music? - “Access and manage items from YouTube Music, like playlists, playback history, and favorites”
- “Share parts of your conversation and other relevant information with YouTube Music, which can be used to improve its services.”
- “You can turn off YouTube Music from the add-ons page.”
thanks for the Revised JEBwhich some APK Insight dismantling takes advantage of.
