Hardware stores fraud: Five suspects arrested

Sûreté du Québec arrested five people in connection with fraud cases at various hardware stores.

From August 20 to December 14, 2020, businesses in Capitale-Nationale, Chaudière-Appalaches, Saguenay, Bas-St-Laurent, Center-du-Québec, Estrie and Montérégie were affected.

The identity of the suspects has been revealed as the arrest warrant has been issued. They are 23 – year – old Cedric Samuel Made from Bellowy, Brian Vineet, 20, from Boucherville, Kevin Albert-Kid, 24, from Victoriaville, Michael Lavictore Ryer, 21, Thetford Mines, 29, and Joligoure Laundry, 29. According to Béatrice Dorsainville, a spokeswoman for Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the suspects knew each other and that it was a fraudulent network.

The suspects still had the same procedure. They pretended to be contractors from outside and called the hardware stores. They have mentioned that they want to buy new tools for the ongoing work in the field.

They completed the transaction over the phone using stolen or fraudulent credit cards, and only then was the theft discovered.

Four of the five suspects were released after promising to appear. They will return to class on May 17th. Cédrik Samuel Matte appeared on April 14 on charges of fraud, theft and kidnapping of property acquired by crime. He was also released on parole.
