Hugh Grant talked about missing the good old days when co-stars on movie sets could get drunk and hook up with each other.
“Movies are so weird right now,” Grant, 62, said during an appearance Monday night on “Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
“They’re weird because, in the old days, by the end of the second week, you’d all get drunk in the evening and have dinner and fall in love with each other and all that. It’s all interrupted by the phones. Everyone goes home and looks at Twitter. It’s sad.”
Grant was on the late-night talk show circuit to promote his new epic fantasy movie “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,” which premieres Friday and co-stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, and Reggae Jean Page.
Grant, who stars in the movie, which is based on the popular game, previously admitted to having “tantrums” during filming.
Grant recently sparked controversy during the Academy Awards after his red carpet interview with model Ashley Graham went viral. The audience was divided, with some criticizing his blunt responses as rude, while others defended the British actor and said Graham was clueless.
Grant is, of course, famous for his antics over the course of his long career – including his 1995 arrest in California with a prostitute in his car, while he was still having an affair with his then-girlfriend, Elizabeth Hurley.
On his Monday night show, Colbert asked Grant if there would be more affairs if people weren’t in groups glued to their smartphones.
Grant replied, “Yes, I think so.” “You know, Tarantino banned phones from his set, and he’s totally right, too. And the people there, they do all that fucking stuff, so I’m told.”
