Immigration Minister Mark Miller said: “People are tired of blaming immigrants for everything.” By using the phrase “people”, he politely took aim at François Legault, attacking his statements on the link between immigration and housing shortages.
What the federal minister needs to understand is that when François Legault presents statistics about the unaffordability of housing amid record numbers of new arrivals, he is not blaming migrant families. He did not point the finger individually at immigrant families who need a roof over their heads as we welcome them into our country.
He blames the central government. Targets central government’s inefficiency in enforcing borders. The indifference of the Federal Ministry of Immigration and inability to process files within a reasonable time contributes to the creation of a market in illegal immigration.
The Quebec Premier has condemned the reign of lies in Canada. Fake foreign students who have abused large scale schemes. Bogus asylum seekers in Canada are not in danger in their own country, but have found loopholes in our system.
Loss of control
The problems don’t come from human migrants, but from the sheer unmanageable numbers of the past two years. If an entire restaurant leaves people on the sidewalk, it’s not a personal attack against them, it’s a simple observation that no chairs are available.
In Quebec, there are twice as many temporary immigrants as there were two years ago: 560,000 out of a population of 9 million. Can anyone pretend to be seriously surprised that there is a housing shortage? Reception classes in schools? Public services?
In short, Mark Miller, it’s not the immigrants, it’s you. And your leader is Justin Trudeau. And your government.
Even economists
François Legault was not the only one to make this observation. Economists, housing experts and community organizations also point out that the current flow of newcomers is unsustainable.
School principals don’t know how to navigate the next school year due to the influx of new students. We can no longer find premises and staff for many reception classes.
Although he is fundamentally correct, François Legault needs to show more caution and finesse in the way he expresses himself. “They are coming to steal us jobs“.
Quebec requires immigration. Without this contribution, we would no longer have food, housing, care and more.
And, without immigration, poverty threatens us. At this point, National Bank Chief Economist Stephen Marion is relevant. Orderly immigration is a guarantee of prosperity. However, over-immigration causes significant problems to the extent that it lowers our standard of living.
