A violent clash broke out Saturday evening at the intersection of Pierre-Roux Boulevard West and Rue des Roses in Victoriaville.
The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. “The at-fault driver of a gray vehicle was traveling eastbound and for an undetermined reason, allegedly failed to stop at a red light. He then collided with a red vehicle entering the boulevard from rue des Roses,” said Camille Savoie, agent of the media relations department of the Sûreté du Québec.
The driver was seriously injured in the collision with the offending vehicle. Initially, there were fears for his life, but by early evening, the SQ announced that there was no longer any threat to his life.
Victoriaville firefighters were called to the scene with rescue tongs. Firefighters removed the door to free the driver.
“The at-fault driver, a man in his thirties, suffered minor injuries,” an SQ spokesman said.
A reconstruction expert was dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and shed light on the causes and circumstances of the collision.
A police investigation is ongoing and the driver may be charged.
