Iranian officials warned Monday evening of the possibility of the “Resistance Front” taking “preventive action” against Israel before the imminent ground invasion of the Jewish state in the Gaza Strip.
“The resistance front is capable of waging a long-term war with the enemy [Israel]“In the coming hours, we can expect preventive action by the resistance front,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said in a live broadcast on state television.
Iran has denied any involvement in Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7 that killed 1,400 people, but Tehran has long supported Hamas and has supported the plight of Palestinians since 1979.
He added, “The resistance leaders will not allow the Zionist entity to carry out any action in Gaza.” “All options are open and we cannot be indifferent to the war crimes committed against the people of Gaza,” Amir Abdullahian added, referring to his meeting with Hezbollah leaders on Saturday.
Israel launched almost continuous air strikes on Palestinian territories in the wake of Hamas’s deadly invasion. Since then, 2,808 people – many of them women and children – have been killed in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health.
Iran praised the brutal attack by Hamas in which its fighters targeted and hunted down innocent civilians, including hundreds who were attending a music festival in Israel.
The country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said last week that he relished what he described as Israel’s “irreparable” military and intelligence defeat.
