Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire have been left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championship in Germany.
The duo join James Maddison, Curtis Jones and James Trafford in missing out on a place in the final 26-man squad, after being included in Gareth Southgate’s initial list of 33 players. Jarrell Quansah is also expected to miss.
Grealish struggled to regain his level in the 2023-2024 season with Manchester City, after scoring only three goals in 36 matches in all competitions. The 28-year-old was previously a regular in Southgate’s squad and was integral to England’s run to the European Championship final in 2021.

Jack Grealish’s difficult season: Guardiola’s frustration, his struggles in training, and his future
Meanwhile, Manchester United centre-back Maguire has been a regular for Southgate over the last three major tournaments. But he has not played since last April due to a calf injury.
England said in a statement on Thursday that Maguire was following an individual program and did not participate in today’s training (Thursday).
The 31-year-old made his debut in 2017 against Lithuania and played a vital role in England’s run to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Although Maguire went through a period of inconsistency with his club last season, Southgate chose him to participate in the World Cup in Qatar, where England reached the quarter-finals, but lost to France.
Maguire participated in 63 international matches with his country, while Grealish participated in 36 matches.
Southgate has until 11pm on Friday to confirm his 26-man squad for the tournament.
