Johnny Depp’s second film, Moody – Three Days on the Wings of Madness, is set to premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.
The film, which stars Riccardo Scamarcio as the famous Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani, is set to premiere in the festival’s out-of-competition section. According to its synopsis, “Modi” is “a story of art, love and rejection” that “follows a chaotic 72-hour whirlwind of events through the streets and bars of a war-torn Paris during World War I.” The film also stars Stephen Graham, Al Pacino and Antonia Desplat.
“Modi” marks Depp’s return to directing after his critically acclaimed 1997 debut “The Brave.” It’s also one of the actor’s first projects since his 2022 legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, in which he sued her for defamation after she accused him of domestic violence. Depp ultimately won the case, though the controversy has taken a toll on his career. He returns to Cannes in 2023 to star in Maïwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry,” and while the film didn’t make the cut at Cannes, he’ll be back in theaters in 2023. diverse There were rumors that Modi might premiere at Venice, but the film apparently took a different path.
In a statement alongside images from the set of “Moody,” Depp described making the film as “an incredibly fulfilling and transformative experience.”
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of the cast, crew and producers for their tireless commitment and creativity,” he continued. “To Al, who asked me to make this film — how could I say no to Pacino? A sincere acknowledgement of the generous contribution of his talent and dedication to this project. ‘Moody’ is a testament to the collaborative spirit of independent filmmaking, and I am excited to bring this unique and compelling story to the world.”
