Kate Middleton to appear at Wimbledon after cancer diagnosis

• Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate Middleton will attend the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday.
• The princess will present the trophy to the winner – either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz.
• This will be the second time she has officially appeared in public since announcing her cancer diagnosis.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that Kate Middleton is set to make her second public appearance in 2024 at the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday.

The Princess of Wales will sit in the Royal Box to watch the match before presenting the trophy to either last year’s winner Carlos Alcaraz or seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.

“The Princess of Wales, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will attend the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final on Sunday 14 July,” Kensington Palace said in a brief statement.

Kate has been patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the past eight years, having taken over the role from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2016.

Prince William usually accompanies his wife to Wimbledon, but this year he will watch England take on Spain in the men’s European Championship final in Berlin.

The royal couple’s eldest children have also attended Wimbledon in the past, with Prince George and Princess Charlotte set to appear in 2023.

This will be the second time the princess has appeared in public since she announced in March that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Kate, 42, also attended Trooping the Colour last month, which celebrates the Queen’s official birthday.

Her attendance came as somewhat of a surprise, as it was thought she would be away from royal duties while undergoing “preventive chemotherapy”.

However, she said in a statement released alongside a new official portrait that she was making “good progress” and hinted that she would “join a few public engagements over the summer”.

“I am learning to be patient, especially in the face of uncertainty. I am taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal,” Kate wrote.
