Oxford, Miss. Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin is expected to be the next head coach for the Auburn Tigers, reports indicated Monday night.
John Sokoloff of WCBI in Columbus, Miss., was the first to break the news. According to Sokoloff, Kevin plans to step down the Friday after the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State to become the next head coach at The Plains.
Last season, Kiffin led the Rebels to their first 10-win regular season in program history. This year marks his third at the helm of the Rebels after taking over prior to the 2020 season following the firing of Matt Lock.
Earlier Monday afternoon during his weekly press conference, Kevin expressed his happiness at Oxford, W He seemed to indicate his intention to stay.
“I think they know how we operate, and they’ve done it before,” Kevin said Monday. “They don’t even ask. I don’t know what to say. I’m so happy here. The difference is where this program is compared to where it was three years ago, and we feel like we have really good support. I can get up here and do the ‘Pine Box’ speech and ‘I’m not going to be the coach'” Next up is Alabama.” I can give you those. I don’t know what that means. However, this appears, at least according to the report, to have been typical farce for a coach.
