Benoit Blanc returns to solve another mystery in Rian Johnson’s third Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man.
Johnson announced the title, along with a 2025 release date, in a teaser posted on X Friday Morning.
“First, the knives came out. Then the glass shattered. “But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed,” Daniel Craig said in the 45-second video, referring to the first two titles of the murder mystery series, “ “Knives Out” for 2019 and “Glass Onion” for 2022.
“Wake Up Dead Man” will be distributed by Netflix as part of Johnson’s two-part deal with the streamer worth $450 million. Although the first film, distributed by Lionsgate, grossed $312 million at the global box office, Netflix released “Glass Onion” in only a limited theatrical release, collecting just $13 million before its online release.
Johnson sent the Internet into a frenzy early Friday morning when She posted a picture of a Pokemon egg, indicating that something is about to hatch. (No, he’s not directing a “Pokémon Go” movie.) About 10 minutes later, he continued, “I love everything crime-related, but one of the things I love most is how flexible the genre is. There’s a whole tonal range of Carr to Christie, and exploring that scope is one of the most exciting things about Benoit Blanc’s filmmaking. We’re about to begin production on the third installment, and I’m very excited to share the title, which gives a little glimpse into the direction things are headed.”
Johnson has his hands full. The writer-director behind Looper and Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is also working on the second season of Peacock’s mystery series starring Natasha Lyonne, Poker Face. He and his producing partner, Ram Bergman, recently signed a two-film deal at Warner Bros., where he will oversee two more.
