The first episode of HBO’s “Hard Knock” focused heavily on Aaron Rodgers’ arrival to the New York Jets, and Tuesday’s follow-up episode was much the same.
However, the best moment in the second part of the documentary series came in the opening minutes – and it had little to do with football.
Magician and magician Oz Perlman joined the Jets for a meeting on Tuesday’s episode, leaving the entire room stunned. First, it was running back Michael Carter at guessing numbers, which caused Carter to run away with laughter.
Then he had wide receiver Mekul Hardman randomly select a puzzle piece that fit perfectly into a pre-made puzzle he had hidden. On the back of this constructed puzzle, Perlman then wrote Hardman’s randomly predicted score in the Super Bowl—the Jets beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-21.
The craziest trick came with Rodgers. What started as a simple card trick left Rodgers sitting there looking completely shivering as he held a can of goldfish inside.
Watch only:
Rodgers is really lucky that safety coach Marquand Manuel only picked a goldfish. Otherwise, who knows how this trick would have gone down.
Rodgers and Jets made big moves with their rushing offense this week. The team signed free agent running back Dalvin Cook, who was released by the Minnesota Vikings earlier this summer. Cook joined on a one-year, $8.6 million deal. Breece Hall was then delisted physically unable to perform on Tuesday, nearly 10 months after he tore his ACL. Having this duo on the court with Rodgers would make all the difference for the Jets, who haven’t been to the playoffs since 2010.
If the new offense can mesh well, and Perelman is right, Rodgers and the Jets will meet the 49ers at the Super Bowl in Vegas in February.
That is, as long as the magic doesn’t wear off.
