NVIDIA and LG are currently holding conferences — streams are embedded below — but Volkswagen doesn't need a press conference to announce… ChatGPT is coming to its cars. As part of its CES 2024 announcements, the automaker says its existing IDA voice assistant will work with ChatGPT across a range of its newer models. VW isn't the first to try this, Mercedes-Benz announced ChatGPT integration in June last year, so this definitely seems like something we'll all have to get used to.

Specifically, VW says that ChatGPT will be enabled on these specific models with the company's latest generation of infotainment systems: ID.7 (pictured above), ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, Volkswagen Tiguan New, new Passat and new Golf. ChatGPT will be rolled out as a “standard feature” on “several” production vehicles in Q2 2024; The company did not mention any regions, but indicated that the feature is currently “under consideration” only in the US market.

  • AMD offers powerful integrated GPUs for its Ryzen 8000G desktop chips

    AMD Ryzen 8000 GB (AMD)

It's been a while since we've gotten new “G” CPUs from AMD. These are the company's pluggable desktop chipsets that have integrated graphics. The fastest model in the new series, the $329 8700G Ryzen 7, is an octa-core chip that runs between 4.2GHz and 5.1GHz, and sports Radeon 780M graphics.

By the company's benchmarks, the 8700G is four times faster Assassin 3 At 1080p compared to the Intel i7-17400K's UHD 770 graphics. The 8700G seems to average 90fps Baldur's Gate 3 At 1080p with low detail settings and the company's Hyper-RX and Fluid Motion Frames features turned on. (The latter is a bit controversial, because it can make gameplay appear smoother and deliver higher frames per second, but it's also an early technology and interpolates more frames than AMD's FidelityFX Supersolution 3.0.) Without any of these extra features, the 8700G is still It reaches a respectable 58 fps Baldur's Gate 3.

It certainly won't come close to using a standalone GPU, but it's a great way to get a gaming PC on a budget.

Even if you're not interested in the graphics capabilities of the Ryzen 8000G series, senior correspondent Devindra Hardawar explains that the built-in AI still makes it a unique desktop chipset:

“Just like the NPUs we've seen in recent mobile chips from AMD, as well as Intel's new Core Ultra hardware, they will allow you to accelerate AI tasks without impacting the CPU or GPU. Currently, NPUs enable features like Windows Studio effects, which can blur the background during video chats, as well as media editing in Adobe and DaVinci programs. NPUs are becoming more of a trend on laptops now, because they can help systems be more efficient and potentially save battery life “But having an NPU on your desktop chip today can be a smart way to future-proof your design.”

ASRock Radeon RX 7600 XT (ASROK)

AMD just dropped the Radeon RX 7600 XT in Las Vegas. It's a slightly improved version of last year's entry-level RX 7600 with higher clock speeds and 16GB of VRAM. While that previous card was focused on 1080p gaming, Devindra Hardawar, Engadget's resident GPU expert, explained that AMD is positioning the RX 7600 XT as a potential upgrade for entry-level 1440p gaming, as well as a better card for running AI tasks. The 7600 XT will be available on January 24 from third-party GPU manufacturers, but no pricing information is available yet. Devindra thinks it will be at least $329.
