lizo The new year begins with a list of grievances about the state of social media — including the notion that “cancel culture” has been twisted into something unrecognizable.
Recently, the singer has been voicing a lot of opinions about what she considers to be total bullshit when it comes to what people focus on online — especially in regards to her. On Sunday, though, she had a new idea…namely, the abolition of culture itself is an appropriation.
This may be a random time to say this but in my heart.. cancel culture is appropriation.
There used to be real anger at really marginalized people and it’s now commonplace, misused, and misdirected.
I hope we can phase this out and focus our anger on the real problems.

Here’s how Lizzo puts it… “There used to be real anger from really marginalized people and it’s now commonplace, misused, and misdirected.” “I hope we can phase this out and focus our anger on the real problems,” she adds. In the comments, several people seem to agree.
Her theory about cancel culture is just the latest thought she has expressed in this issue. Earlier this week, she was talking about social media discourse in general — suggesting that users (maybe Twitter users) need to do a better job of filtering fact from fiction before jumping to conclusions.
We need to talk about the epidemic of believing anything and everything you see on social media…

This goes beyond people having whole debates about her personality, btw — which is still a topic of conversation. Now, there seems to be talk of Lizzo’s music, and which groups they may or may not be catering to…not to mention opinions in its race.
Speaking of fat shaming, Lizzo once again deals with that head-on. She seems to receive a little bit of what Adele went through when she lost weight so significantly… people are criticizing her for not “loving herself” the way she was – this after being mercilessly mocked for years when she was doing just that and championing body positivity. A lose scenario, really.

Of course, some would say she’d be better off tuning out all that noise and getting on with her work – but Lizzo was never one to bite her tongue. On the contrary, she speaks her mind… which a lot of people love about her to begin with.
Something tells us that she will continue to call him as she sees it. But in light of this specific view of cancellation’s hijacking of cancellation culture incorrectly…it’s an interesting point of contention, sure.
